Reading comprehensionQuestion 228 of 550

Every day people make large amounts of waste. They bury most of it in the ground or burn it, and this pollutes the soil and the air. Recycling means collecting used materials, such as paper, glass and metal, and turning them into new products. This saves energy and natural resources. For example, making a can from recycled metal uses much less energy than making it from raw ore. But the success of this process starts at home, when people sort their waste into separate bins. If the materials get mixed, it is hard to separate them, and the cost of treating them goes up. Many cities encourage this by giving colored bins for each kind of material.

Question: We can infer from the text that making products from raw ore:

  1. is always cheaper
  2. uses more energy than recycling
  3. needs no energy
  4. makes less waste
Show answer

Correct answer: uses more energy than recycling

The text compares the two and says recycled metal uses less energy.
